EXAM PREPARATIONS

Most tests will be done without any special preparation. You will be informed during scheduling of any precautions or directions. Correct preparations ensure that your test begins on time and that best results are achieved.

MRI

It is best to wear clothing that is comfortable and does not contain metal parts in the area being scanned. You might be asked to wear a gown. If you have previously worked with cutting or grinding metal, it will be necessary to take an x-ray of your eyes to make sure it is safe to proceed with your MRI. For an MRI with contrast, if you are over the age of 65 or have kidney issues you’ll need to provide recent bloodwork results within 60 days.

X-ray

It is best to wear clothing that is comfortable and does not contain metal parts in the area being examined. You might be asked to wear a gown. Notify our staff if you are or suspect you might be pregnant.

Ultrasound

It is best to wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing. You might be asked to wear a gown. The following exams require special preparation:

- Nothing to eat or drink 8 to 10 hours prior to the exam:

  • Abdomen
  • Aorta
- Drink 32 oz of water 1 hour prior to the exam:

  • Bladder
  • Kidney
  • Pelvis
  • OB First Trimester

EMG/NCV

It is best to wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing. You might be asked to wear a gown. Do not wear any lotions or perfumes the day of your exam.

CT SCAN

Abdomen/Pelvis no IV contrast OR with IV contrast

Do not eat or drink for 12 hours prior to exam, other than water. Oral contrast (Barium) will be provided to the patient unless the diagnosis is a kidney/renal stone. Patient must drink the oral contrast 1 hour before appointment time.

All exams ordered with IV contrast require BUN/CREATININE (results must be less than 60 days old). If you are allergic to iodine or shellfish, or have had a reaction to IV contrast in the past, please notify staff at the time of scheduling.

It is recommended to wear loose comfortable clothing with no metal near the area being scanned. Recommended for women to wear a sports bra.
